- Drink a lot of water, like 5-6 bottles a day, even if you’re not thirsty. This will help flush out all the unwanted bad bacteria from the gut and hence will reduce the chances of UTI.
- DO eat Fruits like cranberries, which is keeping bacteria from sticking to the lining of your urinary tract. As cranberry contain compounds that will not allow bad bacteria fimbriae to get attach to the intestinal or urinary cell lining.
- Do have Probiotics, as probiotics contain good bacteria which are good for your gut as well as your vagina. They fight back the bad bacteria and helps in maintaining vaginal Ph. They can be taken in the form of yogurt or supplements.
- Do try wearing cotton fiber under garments, so that your skin near the bladder can breathe well and bacterial growth is eliminated.
- Do take Vitamin C in your routine diet to inhibit bacterial development, since it is an excellent ingredient that acidifies the urine. But dont consume Vitamin C when you are suffering from UTI as this can irritate your bladder. Once you recover, you can consume Vitamin C.
- Always prefer taking a shower instead of soaking in a bathtub for hours as this can increase your chances of UTI .
- Do avoid women sanitation related sprays, perfumed douches and aromatic bath products that are synthetic which will only aggravate the condition.

- If you want to avoid the chances of getting UTI, one of the biggest no-no of urinary tract maintenance is to wipe from back to front after using the bathroom.
- DON’T drink beverages coffee, alcohol or caffeine till the infection is gone. These drinks can irritate your bladder.
- Depleting your body of water leads to dehydration. When the body have insufficient water, bacteria can grow in the bladder. Plus, not drinking sufficient amounts of water will not allow the medication to penetrate into your kidneys and bladder.
